   This is a very interesting project. Any activity since last year? I’ve been looking at approaches to home automation and this seems closer to what I want than the systems that are grown out of a desire to set lighting schemes or trigger lighting based on detecting motion or arrival through the door, basically add-ons to security systems.
   I want to tie together and replace all the various control systems, mostly timers, that we have around the house, sprinklers, pool filter motor, HVAC thermostat, low voltage landscape lighting, exterior lights, but would also like a platform that can begin to trigger events based on inputs other than scheduled routines, like water the lawn when a sensor says its dry, instead of every day at 5:00 for 10 min, same with lighting, detect daylight conditions instead of a flat schedule or even a pre-programmed almanac for the seasonal cycles.
   Maybe I will get to where I want to detect motion in the house or door and window opening events but those are low on my list of priorities.
   I think I’ll be happiest with the flexibility of a hardware platform like Arduino, and would love to push as much trigger logic as possible to the simple embedded systems instead of having to keep a full PC server running 24/7 to trigger events. On the other hand I do want to start to manage energy usage and other data that would only be feasible to log and analyze on a PC platform.
   So anyway this project looks like the closest thing to the way I think I want to approach these problems that I’ve run into on the web. I hope it stays active and if I can get more time away from my overrated job maybe I can contribute in some small way.

   Hey powerlad — I have to fully admit that I haven’t really had time to keep the project up and running but I have a bunch of ideas. So if I ever have time again…
